I would like to start this week’s article off with a heartfelt note of gratitude to the dear mother in the house who out of the generous nature of her heart, in the coldest of cold days, opened the warmth of her home to me, her most humble servant.  Let me share my good tidings with you all.

It was another bitterly cold day.  I was passing the time quietly in the garage trying to keep my saliva from freezing on my paws as I carefully groomed my fur.  (It was quite the challenge).  As the wind blew and the temperature dropped even more I began to involuntary shiver to keep myself warm.  Just as my shivers began in earnest, the Mother opened the garage door to put something out when I decided to take my chances.  I have tried before (don’t get me wrong … I have tried many times before).  At the worst of times my timing is off and I only succeed in getting the door shut on my nose (literally… quite painful).  This time however was much different.  I managed to skillfully leap through the air at just the right moment and land safely inside the door.

Immediately my senses were overwhelmed with all things wonderful.  The first thing I noticed was the warmth.  Oh, it was delightful.  It swept over my fur causing my skin to tingle from my nose to my toes.  I stepped quickly in attempting to avert the inevitable scoop to drop me back out in the cold.  I don`t know what it was that stopped her, maybe my cripple leg still wounded and sore, maybe it was my strangled meow of delight, maybe it was my swollen left eye.  Whatever the cause I will not question it.  I was allowed to roam all throughout the main floor.  I freely went in one room and then another acquainting myself with the smells of luxury.  I limped under the table and saw evidence of great feasting.

I found myself a warm spot where the sunlight was soaking into the furniture and to my great delight as I settled on the luxurious cushion, I was not disturbed.  Well, only a little disturbed.  The littlest of the lIttles, the Princess as I like to call her, was pretty sure I was not to be in her domain.  She diligently tried to get me out.  Finally, she realized that was useless.  I wasn`t going anywhere if I could help it.

She then decided that I would make an excellent playmate.  Little did she know that this injury has aged me a great deal.  She kept talking about getting a new one.  I think she meant a new cat!  I could hardly believe my ears.  After she said that there was no way I was going to put up with any of her “play”.   Adoring petting and nothing else would I take from her.  As I snoozed deeply on the cushion she tucked a paper under my paw for me to read.  I can`t read so for all I know it could have said `your`re history Buster!` or “ì love you so, my petit bijou!” I think I will go with the latter.

After a couple hours the door to the garage was opened and I took my leave.  The little princess was getting a little too bossy for my liking anyways.

I can see myself really liking this new arrangement.  I hope they know that I won`t be forgetting this any time soon.
