I have to say, I am feeling a lot better! I feel like spring is in the air … the season for love! I have been practicing my scents… What do you think? Sweet isn’t it. I am quite partial to it myself. I have to say after I flowered the area on Monday, things quieted right down. I even saw the last remaining mice hustle right on out the door with their suitcases rolling behind. Boy, were they in a hurry. There is no mistaking it now …. There is a CAT in the house! Feels good to be the boss again.
The paw is still giving me a little trouble but I was able to be out and about a lot more this week. As I was rambling around I ran into an old friend of mine, Gary the groundhog at the Watering Hole (always a good chance you will run into someone you know there, some of us locals meet up there for a good drink of water and catch up with what’s going on in the community). Gary and I, we go way back. He is in a bit of a tither himself. He is scheduled to make some big predictions about winter early Sunday morning. He is so worked up about what he should say if he sees his shadow, and what he should say if he doesn’t see his shadow. I find it quite confusing myself. What these humans come up with in their spare time! His great-great-grand daddy Gary Groundhog was a very good friend of one the most famous Groundhogs, you know, the kind you see on TV. Seemed like a bit of a stretch to me, but it has earned him a fair amount of fame in these parts.
So the talk at the Watering Hole was that there has been a big increase in the amount of mice that are moving into the big homes of the people. With the weather being so cold, they just can’t hack it in their burrows anymore and they are looking for warmer places to raise their young. My cat ears just twitch at the thought of that. Keeping our home mouse-free was a solemn oath I took when I first moved into the Enter house. I looked Father right in the eye and pledged upon my honour that I would do my utmost, as much as it lay within me, to keep those critters from making our house their house. That was not something I take lightly.
As I headed home in the early hours of the morning I thought of what else I could be doing to make sure that there was no more increase in mice activity around our house. I decided there was nothing else for me to do but make sure there was no mistaking my presence. They should be able to smell me from miles away!
All in a day’s work! ___
